I am a graduate of the Art Academy of Cincinnati where I received a traditional art education with drawing and design being my foundation. I graduated majoring in painting and drawing. I have loved my education for my introduction into Art History and find that I vary my technique depending on my mood and as you can see my interests are varied.
I came to pottery after college and found myself drawing with glazes, sometimes called glaze- trailing. I've been working with pottery for more then twenty years and use both high-fire and low-fire clay depending on my subject matter. I use under glazes and low-fire clay because it acts like paint and so I am able to create more painterly imagery like you find in my portraits.
I love the stoneware clay and advanced my portfolio through my work for the last 10 years as an artist for a local pottery studio. I like stoneware clay for its functionality and the inspiration I find in my pattern designs and find that I like what the glaze-trailing does for my animal portraits, particularly in that they are still functional mugs or tiles that can be hung outdoors.
I like using both methods and the different impact each evokes. I know what drew me to pottery was the surface and I have been working to cover that surface in a way that makes me happy and hopefully you as well. I love doing whatever catches my fancy (I am a Gemini after all), and hopefully that will include just about every century in the fine arts and commercial arts, I adore it all!
